Plastic windows are now part of the furnishings of almost every house and apartment. They are affordable and have excellent insulating properties. If properly installed, they block moisture and also provide energy savings. However, windows need to be properly cared for. A washing machine repairman advised us on what is most important when caring for windows.

Textile oil

All windows need to be lubricated. It is a very simple task, but not everyone knows about it and not everyone knows which lubricant to choose. It happens that over time the mechanism of the handle or the frame begins to squeak and in such cases most people immediately contact a repairman. However, this problem can be easily solved. At least once a year all moving parts of the windows must be lubricated. It has been shown that the best oil is the one used for sewing machines, which you can buy in any textile shop. Just put a few drops on the moving parts of the window.

The window mode must be changed in different seasons; it should also be noted that in autumn windows should be switched to winter mode and in spring to summer. It’s very simple, and no professional tools or installers are needed. Simply open the window sash and find the locking mechanism on it. To prepare the window for winter, you must adjust the cam (eccentric). The fittings on windows differ between models, but the pins are often oval or round and have holes for an Allen key.

When the key is turned, the pin is shifted relative to its axis, thereby regulating the force and pressure on the window frame. The default mode is set when the window is installed. If you want to find out which mode you have, just insert a piece of paper into one of the window sashes. If it can be easily removed, the windows are in summer mode. If you can’t pull it out without tearing it, then it’s winter mode. Why shouldn’t we leave winter mode on all year? You can do it, but the window’s properties will soon change. In winter mode the load on the seal increases significantly. If we constantly open and close the window, the mechanism will wear out very quickly.

If windows fog up and mold forms around them

In this case high indoor humidity meets the cold surface of the windows, or the problem may be that the windows are poorly insulated. You can solve the first cause of this problem most simply by ventilating properly, removing plants from the windowsill (they are often the source of excess humidity), and placing dehumidifiers around the window.

If poor insulation is the cause, heat leakage through the windows will add to the mold problems. You can fix the situation by applying vapor barrier tape to the inner side of the window frame on the interior
