Orchid lovers know well that their beloved plant can sometimes be capricious. A slight deviation from the norm or a pest infestation is enough for the orchid to die or wilt. Be inspired by a method that in all cases helps orchids grow strong roots and beautiful colorful flowers.
How to help an orchid develop strong roots
1)
First of all, the orchid must be taken out of the old pot. Check whether it has any fungal disease or dead roots. If so, trim them, rinse the healthy pieces and apply to them, using a spray bottle, a solution of hydrogen peroxide (1 tablespoon per spray bottle). Let it dry overnight in an empty pot. You can also leave it like this for the whole day.
2)
The second step to creating roots for the orchid is soaking it in a special solution. Into a spacious container where the orchid is placed with its roots (only the roots are in the water), pour 2 liters of warm water. Then add tannins to the solution. The simplest way is to use an ordinary tea bag (plain black tea). Just hold the bag briefly so the water slightly colors, as in the photo below. Add 5 drops of lemon juice and 10 drops of any natural growth stimulator and root preparation to the same water. During this time the water should already be at room temperature — which is best for the orchid. Place the dried orchid with its roots into the water and leave it for one hour, no more.
3)
After this time, let the orchids dry again overnight or during the day in empty pots. Gently cover the upper part with bags.
4)
The final, third step is creating a favorable environment for rooting. You will need sphagnum moss, pre-soaked and wrung out of excess moisture, and a roomy zip-lock bag. Place the orchids in small (empty) pots and put them into the zip bag.
5)
Spread the damp sphagnum moss between two pots (or around a single one if it’s large and there is only one orchid). Now almost close the bag and blow air into a small hole. Now close it completely. By inflating the bag you have created a natural environment to stimulate the roots.
6)
Place the orchid in a warm, bright spot out of direct sunlight for one week. Leave it like that; you don’t need to do anything else. If the orchid does not produce a sufficient number of roots during this time, repeat the process of soaking in the solution, drying and placing into the zip bag 1–2 more times until the orchids grow roots. It works 100%!
