This spice can be found in almost every household. Its aroma is especially associated with mulled wine and sweet preserves. Today we will reveal something that ranks clove among one of the most beneficial spices on earth – it is an astonishing healing power.
Clove is the dried calyx with bud of the clove tree (Syzygium aromaticum, syn. Eugenia caryophyllata). It originates from the Moluccan Islands. It is used to season sweet foods, rice and meat. Because of its strong aroma it is also part of many aromatic blends. The main component of clove oil is the phenolic compound eugenol, which has local-anesthetic and antiseptic effects, and is often used in dentistry.
Clove has a slightly sweet taste that often turns bitter. A clove with a dark brown or even black head is defective or too old.
As mentioned above, clove is used as a spice. However, it has pronounced disinfectant and local anesthetic effects. It acts as a mild irritant. It is used in dentistry. It can be used as an effective ingredient in mouthwashes. Clove oil reduces sensitivity and pain of the dental nerve. It can be included in anti-rheumatic ointments.
Administered by inhalation it disinfects the airways and treats bronchial inflammations. According to Ayurveda, taken in powder form it has a stimulating effect on heart muscle activity. It is really very effective at suppressing the pain of dental inflammation.
What can clove do?
- A strong preservative, it has antiseptic and antibacterial effects.
- It is a natural repellent against mosquitoes, moths, ticks and other insects.
- It can clear the airways; steaming over cloves is an excellent way to beat a cold and rid the airways of bacteria.
- Rejuvenates – soak cloves in water and boil. Rub this mixture on wrinkled skin; it’s great for collagen regeneration.
- Can relieve the digestive tract, cleanse it and remove parasites.
- Speeds up metabolism, helps with digestion and with weight loss.

How to naturally cleanse the intestines
- Mix 2 tablespoons of flax seeds and 1 teaspoon of dried clove.
- Grind them in a grinder and in the morning take 2 teaspoons of this mixture before a meal.
- Take for three days, then rest for three days, and continue like this for 3 weeks. It is an excellent way to relieve digestive problems and rid the digestive tract of parasites.
For toothache and against mosquitoes clove is unbeatable – just pour Alpa over it!
- Pour 100 ml of Alpa over 10-15 cloves and let it steep for 2-3 weeks.
- Then apply this mixture to sore teeth, rinse, or rub directly on the area.
- If you need fast relief from toothache, grind or crush a clove and apply it directly to the painful spot.
Repelling mosquitoes
- During the summer, rub this mixture on your wrists and the pulse points on your neck and you’ll be free from mosquitoes.
- I usually spray this mixture on my clothing as well.
Cough medicine
- Mix 60 ml of Alpa with 25 cloves, shake and let steep for 24 hours.
- Before bed take one coffee spoon (about a teaspoon) and let it act in the mouth as long as possible.
