At first glance it may seem strange, but it is quite possible that you have a reservoir of negative energy in your home. This energy can settle in the space and affect your mood and health. It mainly comes from human emotions and can persist there for various reasons – for example from previous owners of the property or from unpleasant arguments you have experienced.

Science and negative energy

Science traditionally does not accept concepts that cannot be physically measured or grasped. Nevertheless, there are energies that act in the world without our being able to see them in ordinary ways. One such phenomenon is emotional energy, which can settle in people, objects, and the space itself.

Researchers at the University of Michigan study human consciousness and observe how energetic traces remain in different environments. This mechanism works similarly to the attachment of emotions to objects, which can affect both our health and the overall atmosphere in a room.

Dr. Masaru Emoto, a Japanese scientist, demonstrated with his experiments that human emotions and thoughts influence the physical world, including the structure of water. His experiments showed that positive words, music, and emotions can affect water positively, while negative thoughts and feelings change its structure for the worse.

How to detect the presence of negative energy in the house?

Have you ever entered a room and felt a heavy, unpleasant atmosphere? Or conversely – did you feel a sense of lightness and well‑being in some place? The same phenomenon applies to people. Some people radiate positive energy, while others can spread negative vibrations.

Want to find out if there is negative energy in your home? Try a simple test with water, salt, and vinegar.

What you will need?

  • 2 tablespoons of vinegar

  • 2 teaspoons of salt

  • 500 ml of filtered water

  • a clean glass container (preferably a clear jar)

How to proceed?

  1. Pour the water into the glass, add the vinegar and salt.

  2. Stir thoroughly for 60 seconds.

  3. Place the glass where you spend the most time (for example in the living room or bedroom).

  4. Let the mixture stand for a full 24 hours and observe what happens.

  5. If the salt begins to rise up, it means it is absorbing negative energy from the room.

  6. If the mixture remains unchanged, it is likely that there is no significant negative energy in the space.

How to get rid of negative energy?

If you find that the salt changes its appearance, it is advisable to pour the glass out outside the home (for example into the trash) and repeat the entire process until the salt stops accumulating. You can apply this procedure in different parts of the house where you feel an unpleasant atmosphere.

Why is it important to cleanse the home of negative energy?

Long‑term exposure to negative energy can lead to:

  • worsening mood and depression

  • a feeling of exhaustion and fatigue

  • increased irritability

  • poorer sleep quality

  • problems in relationships

Therefore it is important to regularly cleanse the space of unwanted energetic traces. Besides the salt test you can also use other methods, such as burning white sage, using essential oils, or sound vibrations with Tibetan bowls.
