Almost every one of us longs for a perfectly clean bathroom and toilet. We often give it more attention than, for example, the kitchen, since washing away all the stains sometimes seems impossible.
However, there is one way to keep the toilet clean at all times. Store-bought products, however, are full of chemicals that are especially dangerous for children.
Chlorine reacts with acids and releases toxic gases. These cause irritating reactions and damage the skin and other organic material they come into contact with.
Some products are also enhanced with fragrances that trigger allergic reactions, cause headaches and irritate the lungs.
That is why we should use more natural products instead of chemical ones. We therefore bring you one method for homemade toilet cleaning bombs.
For homemade cleaning bombs you will need:
- ½ cup baking soda
- ½ cup citric acid
- ½ cup cornstarch
- water
- 25 drops of essential oil of your choice (for example, orange essential oil has very strong cleaning effects)
How to prepare and use
Put all the ingredients into a bag, except the essential oil and water, and mix well. Add about 2–3 teaspoons of water, seal the bag and press.
Repeat this process about 6–7 times. Don’t panic if the mixture starts to foam. That’s quite normal because of the baking soda and acid content.
The final mixture should have a consistency similar to cake batter. If you squeeze the mixture, it should be firmer. At this stage add the essential oil and press again.
Press the mixture very firmly into molds. If you have two identical molds, it’s ideal to fill one and use the other mold to press the mixture in further.
Let the mixture dry. It usually takes 2–3 days. Then remove the bombs from the molds and let them dry for at least another 2 days.
Store the bombs in a well-sealable container, preferably plastic.
Use
Using the bombs is very simple. Just toss a bomb into the toilet. Once it starts to foam, you can clean the toilet with a brush. The toilet will be incredibly clean in no time.
