When you see the result of this work you will be amazed. A retired man decided to try to make a homemade beehive at his cottage so he could enjoy his perfect honey every year.
Building the beehive
This gentleman has as much honey each year as he and his wife consume. And that’s only thanks to his own inventiveness and imaginative flair. He made a home for the hardworking bees using only ordinary canning jars.
How to do it?
To build the beehive he needed only a few things. He used a wooden box and a plywood strip about 10-15mm thick as support material, as well as 12 one-liter canning jars, medium-sized screws, a drill, dark wood stain, a pencil and ruler, and a saw.
On the plywood he marked 12 points with a pencil at equal distances. He measured 10 cm in from each edge. That gave the layout you see in the picture.
He turned the wooden box upside down and traced the circumference of the jars’ mouths. He cut circular holes and placed the jars into them.
He fixed the plywood to the frame of the wooden box and attached wooden slats to it. He added a grid that he had previously prepared from thin iron rods. These later served to prevent the whole beehive from collapsing under the weight of the honey “harvest”.
He stained the wooden box dark and placed it in a pre-prepared spot at the end of the garden.
Gradually the amateur beekeeper managed to make an entire stand on which several mini beehives now sit.
Conclusion
The old gentleman no longer enjoys the honey only for himself, but he now gladly shares it with close family.
