The sciatic nerve is the largest muscle in the body. It can often be affected by inflammation of the sciatic nerve, commonly called sciatica. You can find it in the back part of your body; it starts at the buttock and goes down along the entire length of the leg and ends in the lower part.
Sciatic nerve pain can be very intense and can shoot from the back to the outer side of the thigh and leg all the way to the foot, which can consequently be very traumatizing.
It can change your everyday movement, routine tasks; your life can be altered precisely by this pain. This pain manifests as a feeling of heavy legs, tingling, or numbness. It can also affect movement and sitting.
Sciatic nerve inflammation – most important information
Inflammation of the sciatic nerve is accompanied by pain of varying intensity. That mainly depends on the actual cause. Pain is also individual, but in no case is it pleasant, so it is important to start looking into how to help yourself from this unpleasant pain as quickly as possible. For example, the pain worsens when you bend forward, cough, or sneeze.
There are several causes: it can be, for example, a herniated intervertebral disc, a sudden twist, degenerative changes of spinal structures, physical overloading of muscles, or muscle tension due to internal stress. Treatment can vary: bed rest, lumbar spine traction, poultices and the like. If that doesn’t work, surgery may also be considered.
Doctors also prescribe medications that help provide quick and effective relief. However, this is only temporary and not permanent. It is better to use natural remedies, those that will help you long-term and overall. They help protect the nerve from inflammation, pressure, and also from pain.
