An orchid is a beautiful and unique plant, and therefore requires special care. There are many different kinds of orchids, some of which are very hardy and some of which grow only in specially adapted rooms.

Today we would like to provide you with several useful tips for caring for orchids

Choose wisely

If you’ve never had an orchid and want to get your first beautiful plant, start by choosing a variety that doesn’t require special care and is resistant to disease. Start with the Phalaenopsis orchid. This variety blooms for a long time and is fairly easy to care for.

Light is very important for orchids

Because orchids are tropical plants, light is very important for them. Place it in a room where it has enough light, but where it won’t be scorched by direct sunlight. The best place for an orchid is a windowsill. Phalaenopsis orchids tolerate low light well, so it’s not a problem if you place it somewhere that doesn’t get much light.

Smart watering

Usually it’s enough to water an orchid once a week. There is a good method that requires a container of rainwater: place the orchid pot into it so that the water covers it. Leave it like that for 20–30 minutes. If you don’t have hard water at home, you can put it in the shower, but the water should not be cold. The orchid’s potting mix absorbs enough water. Let the water drain before returning it to its place.

Repotting should be done carefully

An orchid is usually repotted into another pot every two years. When repotting you must be very careful because the plant’s roots are very sensitive. Do not water the plant for about 3 days after repotting.

An orchid won’t bloom if the room temperature isn’t right

An orchid will begin to flower when the temperature is suitable for it. In the period preparing for flowering, a nighttime temperature of around 15–18 degrees Celsius is required.
