Did you know that you may be causing skin infections, allergies, acne or respiratory problems yourself?

The cause is hidden in your bedding.

You have no idea what all is in there…

Every day you may be playing with your own health and the health of others without realizing it.

Because, for example, bed linen is a breeding ground for mites and bacteria, and it’s definitely not enough to change it only once a month, as our men sometimes try to convince us.

1. Bedding: once every two weeks

We spend about a third of our lives in bed, so we should pay attention to its hygiene. Bedding should definitely not be changed only when it starts to smell unpleasant, but much earlier.

The biological waste accumulated in bed linen and bedding can cause not only skin problems, acne and clogged pores, but also the development of allergies or worsening of asthma and respiratory problems. Pillow and duvet covers should be changed once a week, at the latest after 14 days. If you are ill, suffer from excessive sweating or are allergic, bed linen should be changed every three days.

Nowadays we often forget that we should also clean duvets and pillows from time to time. Ideally, they should be put in the washing machine or taken to the dry cleaner twice a year.

2. Sheet: once a week

Of course it’s not enough to just change the bedding, you mustn’t forget the sheet either. You should change it at least once a week. You can’t imagine how much biological waste from our sweat, dead skin cells and hair accumulates in your bed during those seven days.

Like bedding, sheets must be washed at least on 60 ° C to kill mites. Did you know that in one gram of dust from a pillow, duvet or mattress there can be up to 15 000 mites?

3. Hand towels and bath towels: every three days

You may believe that bath towels don’t need to be changed that often.

After all, you wipe your clean body with them. But after each shower or bath, your dead skin cells remain in the damp towel, and they thus become literally an incubator for bacteria that happily multiply there. The result can be infections and skin diseases that spread over the entire body.

More than half of us are carriers of staphylococcus, which hides on our skin. It is completely harmless – until it gets into an open wound. There it can cause serious skin infections.

Therefore, we should change towels every three to four days and wash them at 60 ° C. And remember, never share your towel with anyone!
