It’s always the same: a pleasant outdoor get-together with friends finally arrives, but within moments you hear the annoying buzzing of mosquitoes and soon everyone is scratching itchy bites. Once it warms up outside, mosquitoes are everywhere. For example, we want to sleep comfortably, but all night we have uninvited guests in the bedroom. If you don’t want to reach for chemical products and repellents right away, this great idea may come in handy. We’ll show you an easy and cheap mosquito trap that you can make at home in 5 minutes and that will help you for many days. The trap is most effective, of course, in an enclosed space, but you can also use it outdoors.
Pour water that is no warmer than 30 degrees into the bottom of the cut bottle.
Add the sugar to the water and mix thoroughly.
Then add the yeast to the sweetened water and mix again thoroughly so that everything dissolves.
Once everything has dissolved, use the part of the bottle that you cut off. Insert it into the bottle from above upside down. If the cut-off part does not sit firmly in the bottle, don’t hesitate to glue the two parts together.
Thanks to this system, the carbon dioxide will be emitted only through the neck of the cut-off part.
Usage
All the unpleasant insects in your vicinity will rush to this spot. Once they crawl into your trap, they won’t get out.
Wrap the bottle in a cloth or in newspaper and secure the edges tightly.
Place the resulting trap in the corners of the room where there is no draft. The trap can also be used outdoors, but it will not be as effective as it is indoors.
The smell of fermentation will attract mosquitoes, but they will not be able to get out of the trap.
Principle of the trap
As long as the fermentation process continues, your trap works. Once the release of carbon dioxide ends, the trap is no longer effective and you can throw it away. Fermentation lasts 5-7 days.
This trap is also effective for other insects, such as flies, wasps, houseflies and similar. To lure these insects into the trap, put warm water and pieces of fruit, jam or honey inside.
A fruit trap will remain functional for up to 14 days.
