You probably think your washing machine is constantly clean – but unfortunately residues of mold and cleaning agents can build up in it during use.

Mold spores can penetrate your clothes and cause an unpleasant odor

That may be why your clothes begin to smell of mold even after washing. You might not even notice it, but if there is mold in your machine, there’s a good chance it will end up on your clothes. The scent is really unpleasant and can cause serious health problems if not addressed.

Fortunately, it turns out something can be done about it and it doesn’t even involve buying a new machine. You can get rid of this problem with just two ingredients!

Removing mold from the washing machine

All you need is white vinegar and bleach (preferably Clorox).

But do not mix these ingredients together! When mixed they become toxic and dangerous, so they should be used separately. Learn exactly how to do it below.

Make sure you wear gloves, and leave doors and windows open to ventilate. Mix the bleach with an equal amount of hot water (50/50). Soak a cloth in the mixture and begin wiping all the rubber seal. Don’t forget to remove the rubber seal and clean the inside.

There may be areas that are hard to reach, and then leave the cloth in place for 30 minutes. This will kill all the mold.

After soaking, remove the cloth and gently wipe the seal with an old toothbrush.

Wipe the rubber seals with a clean dry cloth until all residue is gone. When finished, place all cloths that were in contact with the bleach into the washing machine and run them through a full wash and rinse cycle at the hottest temperature.

Then run the machine for a second full cycle, also at the maximum temperature, and add about 2 cups of vinegar.

Remove the detergent dispenser and clean it with a mixture of vinegar and water in a 50/50 ratio. And that’s it. You’re done and your washing machine is completely clean. By far the cheapest way to get a super clean machine.

How to keep your washing machine clean?

1. Check the seal for small garments (socks like to get stuck there) and quickly wipe it with a dry cloth to remove excess water.
2. After washing, leave the washing machine door open so that air can circulate and prevent mold growth.
3. Remove wet clothes from the washer immediately, and if you can’t, at least open the door after washing.
