If you crave fresh homemade bread but don’t have an oven at hand, don’t despair! This skillet bread recipe is quick, easy and will give you two tasty loaves of about 400 g each. You only need a few basic ingredients and a little time and you’re done.
What you’ll need:
- 500 g wheat flour
- 330 ml water
- 10 g salt
- 5 g dry yeast or 15 g fresh yeast
- oil for greasing the pan
Method:
-
Dough preparation:
- First prepare all the ingredients: flour, yeast, salt and water.
- Mix all the ingredients and work into a uniform dough. The dough should be smooth and elastic.
- Then divide the dough into two smaller loaves and let them rise for about half an hour in a warm place.
-
Preparing the pan:
- After the dough has risen, prepare the pan. Thoroughly grease it with oil so the bread doesn’t stick and gets a nice crust.
- Place one of the loaves on the greased pan and cover with a lid. Cook the bread over medium heat on one side for 12-15 minutes, until the bottom turns golden.
-
Finishing the bread:
- After baking one side, brush the top of the bread with oil and flip it.
- Let the other side finish baking, again under the lid, so the bread is evenly cooked and nicely crispy.
-
Serving:
- Remove the finished loaf from the pan, let it cool slightly and then cut it. You can serve it immediately, ideally still warm, with your favorite spreads, cheeses or just with butter.
Conclusion
This skillet bread is a great alternative to traditional baked goods and will surprise you with its simplicity and taste. Enjoy it and don’t be afraid to experiment with ingredients or herbs that can give the bread a new dimension!
