Surely you have noticed the white little crescent on your nails, but you probably do not know why it appears and what its significance is.
A healthy person can have 7-8 lunulae on their nails
If it is visible only on your thumbs, it may simply be an indication of kidney disease. Your nails can tell you much more than whether you need a manicure. They are full of details about your health. They can show whether you have an infection, a serious illness, or even how well you are eating.
To find out what your nails might be telling you, you should read this article
Lunula is the white crescent-shaped area at the base of your nails; the Latin name means “little moon.” It is a sensitive part that plays an important role. The lunula is mostly visible on the thumbs, although it is not seen in all people. In some cases it is covered by a thickened layer of skin that surrounds the nails (eponychium). The lunula is essentially the visible part of your nail root, which must not be damaged because it can cause permanent nail deformity.
According to traditional Chinese medicine, the white half-moon can say a lot about your health
It can be a sign of anemia or malnutrition, while a pale or bluish lunula may indicate diabetes. If your lunula is reddish, you may be suffering from cardiovascular diseases. A small or barely visible lunula may mean that you have a slow metabolism or a body full of toxins, and at the same time indicates digestive problems.
The lunula should make up one-fifth of your nail and should also have sharp, well-defined edges. If you are ill, its color will change or it will shrink — the “little moon” will reappear once you are healthy. A healthy nail is firm and pink with a clearly visible lunula.
