There is nothing better than enjoying freshly picked, juicy cucumbers from your own garden in the summer. Cucumbers are tasty, crunchy and full of refreshing aroma that every gardener will appreciate. But to achieve a bountiful harvest, cucumbers need the right care. Thanks to the advice of my grandfather, who was an experienced gardener, I have a harvest every year that exceeds all my expectations. I would like to share with you a few proven tricks that will help you grow healthy and productive plants.
1. Iodine mixture for strong growth
When your cucumbers already have 3–4 leaves, you can give them strength with a special mixture that supports their growth and protects them from diseases. Into a bucket of water add 30 drops of iodine, 20 grams of soap and 1 liter of water. Apply this mixture every ten days. Iodine has great antiseptic effects that help cucumbers resist fungal diseases.
2. Bread treatment for nourishment
Another proven method is the bread treatment. In the evening, place a slice of bread into a bucket filled with water. Let the mixture stand overnight. In the morning filter the water, add a small bottle of iodine and water the cucumbers with the mixture. Repeat this procedure every two weeks, and your cucumbers will be healthy and productive all summer long.
3. Whey and sugar for a sweet harvest
If you mix 2 liters of whey and 150 grams of sugar in a bucket of water and water your cucumbers with this mixture, they will reward you with a bountiful harvest. Whey provides the plants with necessary nutrients and the sugar supports fruit development, which leads to larger and tastier yields.
4. Onion decoction against pests
Cucumbers can be attacked by various pests, but with the help of an onion decoction you can effectively combat them. Fill a 700-gram canning jar with onion skins and add it to a bucket with 10 liters of water. Boil the mixture, remove from the heat and let it stand for 12 hours. Then filter and dilute with water in a 1:4 ratio. Use this mixture to water the cucumbers. The onion decoction acts as a natural repellent and protects the plants from pests.
5. Whey for healthy growth
The final tip is a whey and water mixture. Mix 1 liter of whey with 5 liters of water and regularly water your cucumbers with this mixture. Whey is rich in nutrients that support plant growth and also improve their resistance to diseases.
Thanks to these simple but effective tricks, you can be sure that your cucumbers will produce abundantly every year and you will be able to enjoy their fresh taste straight from your own garden.
