Our skin is often the first indicator that something is wrong with our health. One of the organs whose problems can manifest on the skin is the liver. Liver disease, if not treated in time, can have serious consequences, including liver failure. However, many people do not know that the first warning signs can appear on the skin.
Liver disease is not uncommon, but it is often detected late, which makes treatment more difficult. If the liver does not perform its function properly, it will stop filtering toxins effectively, which can affect blood clotting, cause digestive problems and many other symptoms. Which symptoms should we not ignore?
1. Thin and fragile skin
If your skin becomes thin and easily injured or bruises appear for no apparent reason, this may be a sign of liver problems.
2. Feeling of dryness and itching
Frequent skin itching and a feeling of extreme dryness may signal the liver’s inability to effectively eliminate toxins from the body.
3. Eczema and skin inflammations
People with liver disease often suffer from eczema or skin inflammations, which are the body’s reaction to toxins the liver cannot remove.
4. Vasodilation (dilated blood vessels)
Visible dilation of blood vessels, especially in the face and chest area, may be a consequence of the liver’s inability to properly regulate blood circulation.
5. Speckled spots on the chest, shoulders and face
These small, dark spots often appear on the chest, shoulders and face and may be one of the first visible signs of liver problems.
6. Severely itchy nodules
Inflammatory nodules that are very itchy and sensitive may be a sign of toxin buildup in the body due to poorly functioning liver.
7. Yellowish spots and fatty deposits on the eyelids
Yellowish spots and small fatty deposits may appear on both upper and lower eyelids as a result of lipid metabolism disorders caused by liver problems.
8. Frequent bleeding
The liver plays a key role in the blood clotting process. If it does not function properly, unusual bleeding can occur, for example from the nose or gums.
9. Liver spots on the forehead, lips and chin
Dark spots, often referred to as liver spots, may appear on the forehead, above the upper lip and on the chin.
10. Redness on the palms and soles
Redness of the palms and soles is a common sign that may indicate impaired liver function. This symptom is known as “liver erythema.”
Yellowish skin color
When the liver does not function properly, the body cannot get rid of bilirubin, which leads to a yellowish skin color known as jaundice.
These symptoms can be easily overlooked, because they often appear slowly and inconspicuously. However, if you notice any of the above symptoms, it is important to see a doctor. The liver is one of the most important organs in the body and its health should be our priority.
