Notes in the student’s record book caused many of us a lot of tears and sleepless nights. Some were justified, but some didn’t belong in the record book.
Note from 1995
A Funradio listener sent her note from 1995 to the editors.
At that time this note in the student’s record book seemed more than absurd to the parents, and so they replied to the teacher with very sensible words.
The note about the pupil Dostála read: “the pupil chatted during class and did not work independently.”
What the parents wrote back to the teacher
The parents replied to the teacher with the following: “Dear Mrs. Teacher, if there is one thing I cannot stand, it is unpedagogical approaches to pupils. A teacher should engage the pupils with their approach, and not behave in a way that makes the class fear them. If you were unsure and nervous during the lesson, don’t be surprised that the pupils do not like you!
Your statement: “pray, pupils, that I won’t come to you for math tomorrow, because I will give you a written test,” I think says it all. If you disagree with my reply, perhaps it would be better if we met with the school principal. “
