Sore joints can unfortunately become an integral part of everyday life, which is true for many people, including me. Instead of constantly taking painkillers I look for alternative ways to relieve myself in a more natural way. And as the saying goes: “Help yourself and even the Lord God will help you.”

One of the most effective methods I came across is a homemade tincture from chestnuts – namely the horse chestnut. This recipe really helped me reduce joint pain, especially in the wrist and knee area, and even saved me from a surgery I was facing.

How to prepare a chestnut tincture

Every autumn, when I go mushroom picking with my husband, I also collect chestnuts (horse chestnut). This simple and cheap tincture recipe is easy to prepare and can be a great helper for joint pain.

Ingredients:

  • 15–20 chestnuts (horse chestnut)
  • 1 liter of Alpa or strong alcohol (for example vodka)
  • (optionally) a few crushed aspirin tablets

Preparation method:

  1. Preparing the chestnuts: Cut the chestnuts into quarters or crush them so they release their active substances.

  2. Place in a container: Put the chestnuts into a large preserving jar and pour a liter of Alpa or strong alcohol over them.

  3. Let it steep: Close the jar well and let it stand in a dark and cool place for one month.

  4. Optional addition: If you want, you can add crushed aspirin to the mixture, which will help further support the effects of the tincture. The original recipe does not contain aspirin, so the choice is yours.

After a month the tincture is ready to use.

Using the chestnut tincture

Every evening before bed simply apply the tincture to the sore areas – for me those are mainly the wrists and knees. After application let the tincture absorb and enjoy the feeling of relief.

This home remedy wonderfully relieves pain and inflammation, and my mother-in-law even uses it for varicose veins and cold feet.

Personal experience

A few years ago I was facing surgery because of chronic wrist pain. Since I started using this tincture my condition has improved significantly and surgery is no longer on the agenda. I recommend this traditional recipe for sore joints to anyone who suffers from similar problems!
