Golden school days! Slovaks reminisced about the time when they were afraid to take their report book home.
Report book from the 70s
One Slovak woman started a discussion on Facebook about teachers’ notes in report books. She still has her report book at home, which is more than 40 years old.
She shared with others which notes still stand out in it
“I didn’t learn the lesson, I’m lazy. I didn’t have the picture, I’m untidy,” was written in the report book more than 40 years ago. This entry helped other Slovaks remember as well.
Read what other former students received notes for:
“I had a report book for good grades and bad grades and notes. I used to bring the good one home and I always hid the bad one at school in a secret place. But once they found out about it and I got such a beating that I learned my lesson.”
“It’s a pity that I don’t have mine … Within half a year I always had about 35 notes and I even had them colored in with a different crayon each. I had such a cheerful report book.”
“It doesn’t beat my brother’s note, who in about 6th grade had the note: ”I smoke, I steal and I roam around Petržalka“. The teacher caught them in someone else’s garden, as they were stealing quinces; they apparently even had a smoke, while we had a 10-acre garden, but we didn’t have quinces.”
“My son in 5th grade also got an interesting note from the headmistress in computer science for having everything done. He just said: ”This is boring here.“ The note read: ”Your son knows everything, masters everything, he doesn’t need to go to school.“
“I once got a five in practical lessons because I forgot to bring the supplies. The teacher wrote only 5 and a signature and I was supposed to write the text myself. So I wrote: ”Bring 5 Kčs, we’re going to the theatre.“ I even got 5 Kčs from my dad, but after the parent meeting there was a different scolding at home.”
“I had a note from the canteen supervisor: ”He left the canteen saying: “F*ck, that was lunch again.”“
