Maria Treben, an Austrian herbalist and the author of the book Health from God’s Pharmacy, is known for her love of nettle. According to her, this plant has incredible healing properties that can support the health of the whole body.
Why is nettle so valuable?
Nettle, which grows in spring and autumn, contains a number of active substances that help with many health problems. Maria Treben recommends regularly drinking nettle tea as part of four-week cleansing cures that improve conditioning and boost energy.
“After such a cure I feel better and have more energy,” wrote Maria Treben in her book.

Cleaning the body and blood
Nettle helps flush out toxins, cleans the blood, and supports the health of organs. -

Disease prevention
Nettle helps prevent infections, colds, and alleviates allergic reactions such as hay fever.
How to prepare nettle tea?
According to Maria Treben, nettle should only be scalded for 30 seconds so it retains its valuable active substances. It is not recommended to boil it for a long time.
Instructions for preparation:
- Collect fresh nettle leaves (you can also use dried ones).
- Pour boiling water over them and let steep for 30 seconds.
- Drink the tea slowly, in small sips, so the healing effects can best manifest.
Recommended dosage of nettle tea
- Cleansing cure: 2–3 cups daily, the first cup in the morning on an empty stomach, the others during the day.
- Preventive use: 1 cup daily throughout the year, then a one-month break.
Combination with other herbs
For those who do not like the slightly bitter taste of nettle tea, Maria Treben recommends adding:
- Peppermint for a refreshing taste.
- Chamomile for calming effects.
- Lemon juice and honey to soften the taste and enhance the healing effects.
Conditions that nettle may help
Maria Treben recommends nettle as a supportive treatment for:
- diseases of the liver, gallbladder and spleen,
- chronic stomach problems,
- circulatory disorders,
- anemia (it increases hemoglobin levels due to its high iron content),
- fatigue, weakness and exhaustion.
Warning about using nettle
Although nettle has many health benefits, it is important to use it only as a dietary supplement. Always consult your doctor if you want to include it in the treatment of serious illnesses.
