Gasoline prices have been much higher than we were used to for several months now. It is therefore logical that everyone is trying to save as much on gasoline as possible. We have eight tips for you that will definitely help with that.

8. Stay alert and keep a safe distance

By staying constantly alert in traffic, you ensure that you will need to brake and accelerate less often. Over the long term this will save a lot of gasoline. Driving right behind another car can also cost a lot more gasoline because you are constantly hitting the brakes. By keeping a sufficient distance from other road users you prevent that.

7. Regularly check tire pressure

When driving, the pressure in your car’s tires increases. It’s important to regularly check your car’s tire pressure (or have it checked) to make sure the tires can handle this pressure. If they can’t, you’ll have to slow down and speed up more often (which again costs more gasoline).

6. Don’t brake too hard at traffic lights

We’ve already mentioned that you need to be alert. This applies not only when you are “just” driving among others, but also when you’re approaching a traffic light. If you make sure you’ve slowed down a bit before the light, you won’t later have to stomp on the brakes with full force. This will save a lot of gasoline, and therefore a lot of money!

5. Maintain a constant speed whenever possible

That can be difficult if you’re driving on a main road, but on country roads it’s definitely worth a try. Accelerating unnecessarily wastes gasoline. If you drive at as constant a speed as possible, you can save up to thirty percent of gasoline.

4. Carry as few items as possible

Even though you often feel that the load on the rear seat of your car doesn’t matter, it consumes much more gasoline. If you only take the absolute essentials and leave the rest at home, you can save a lot of gasoline. In addition, you’ll save a lot on towing costs!

3. Combine short trips together

Just shopping, getting some more things for a holiday, picking up the kids from sports club….. We often make a lot of short car trips. Try to combine them. Not only will it save time, but the car only needs to be fully started once.

2. Use the air conditioning as little as possible

On hot days cars generally consume less gasoline because it doesn’t take them as long to warm up fully. However, the gain for that reason can quickly disappear the moment you turn on the air conditioning. It’s better to opt for opening the car windows a bit more often and reserve the air conditioning for highway driving only.

1. Leave the heater off

The same applies to the car heater as to the air conditioning: it creates a comfortable environment, but it also costs a lot of gasoline. Try to use the heater in the car as little as possible. Is it really necessary? Then only turn it on once you are already driving. That way you will save a lot of time on heating and gasoline.
