A healthy lifestyle is now a trend followed by many of us. After all, who wouldn’t want to be healthy, beautiful and content? Yet information is coming at us from every side that we don’t always know how to sort correctly. Is daily exercise healthy? Are carbohydrates harmful? Today we’ll give you answers to some of the questions you’ve probably asked yourself at times.

Food packaging always tells the truth

If you thought you would always find correct and accurate information on food packaging, we have bad news for you. Manufacturers have many tricks they use to make a product appear healthier. Always check the calorie content based on the weight of the product and not per 100 grams. If, for example, a chocolate bar is 200 grams and the number of calories is listed only per 100, you need to double the calorie count.

The second thing is a kind of sugar masking. Manufacturers may state that the product contains sugar, but if there’s a lot of it, they hide it under terms like fructose, fructose-glucose syrup, or fruit juices. It’s best to follow the old good rule: the fewer ingredients a product contains, the better.

Give your dinner to the enemy

Almost everyone has probably heard this sentence. However, the latest studies show that it is indeed a myth. If you skip dinner, you will only slow down your metabolism. Your blood sugar level also decreases and fatigue is significantly stronger. The best thing you can do is have something light for dinner with protein content, which is absorbed better during sleep.

It’s best to exercise every day

This is true, but only if you are a professional athlete. Even they know how important recovery after sports is. Muscles need their time to recover. If you exercise intensely every day, try replacing a few workouts with, for example, yoga. Ideally, exercise five times a week.

The more you sweat, the more you lose weight

This myth is related not only to sports but also to saunas or various specialized clothing that guarantees better sweating. The amount of sweat does not affect your workout effectiveness or weight. For example, during an hour of sport when you sweat, you burn about 270–300 calories. During exercise when you don’t sweat as much but still perform some activity, you burn almost the same. Sitting in a sauna also has no effect on weight. That’s why you don’t need to sit there unnecessarily to lose more weight or lose it faster.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day

Have you also heard that breakfast is the foundation of the day and that you can’t live healthily or lose weight without it? However, the latest research has shown that people who skipped breakfast ate much less during the day than those who indulged in breakfast. There is, however, one very important footnote. The study was conducted on people who had to force themselves to eat breakfast. Therefore the conclusion is that you should listen to your body. If you wake up hungry in the morning, have breakfast. If you can manage a few hours without food, have, for example, some nuts and maybe a little later.

If I want to lose weight, I need strong willpower

Many people believe that losing weight depends on strong willpower. The truth, however, is that it is also about mental state, genetics, overall body structure, health, lifestyle — so the process of losing weight is a very individual matter.

Running is for everyone

Did you know that up to 79% of people who run regularly bring various health problems and injuries upon themselves? Running is not suitable for people who are severely overweight, nor for those who have problems with the small bones in their heels and feet in general. Running is also not recommended for older people. If you decide to run, don’t overdo it. It is recommended a maximum of 30–50 minutes a day.

Carbohydrates and proteins cannot be eaten together

Food combining. Everyone has heard of it and everyone knows the rule: never mix proteins with carbohydrates. The reason is supposed to be the different digestion processes of these two components. But our body is much wiser than we think, and proteins with carbohydrates are digested completely normally. Carbohydrates begin to break down already in the oral cavity, proteins in the stomach and large intestine.

We believe that with this article we have debunked some myths and perhaps helped you better understand that when it comes to embracing a healthy lifestyle, willpower and common sense are enough.
