Laundry is a seemingly simple activity.
You separate the clothes, put them in the washing machine, set the correct program, add detergents and wash…
But is it really that simple? Many of us make mistakes that aren’t so obvious. See what you definitely shouldn’t do!
1. Too much detergent
Too many cleaning agents, such as fabric softener, are often added to the washer. The clothes then become much harder to rinse and may even have an unpleasant smell. So always check the manual and use the measuring cup.
2. Water temperature too high
Clothes retain their shape and color if they are washed at the correct temperature. Information about the temperature at which the laundry should be washed is located on the label. Therefore, in addition to separating by color, we should also pay attention to the temperature at which the material should be washed.
3. Washing very dirty clothes
If clothes are heavily soiled, for example with mud or heavy staining, you should first prewash them with a stain remover and soak them before putting them in the washer. Dirt not only may not be removed during the washing process, but after repeated cycles it can cause the washing machine to malfunction.
4. Washing items that should be washed only by hand
Many items cannot be washed in a machine, for example bras. They stretch and lose their shape. This often applies to lace underwear or swimsuits.
5. Using bleach on elastane, lycra or spandex
Remember that bleach is an aggressive agent that weakens the fibers of the material and should not be overused, especially on synthetic fibers. Elastane, lycra or spandex should be washed in cold water, do not use fabric softeners, do not tumble dry and do not iron.
6. Frequent washing of jeans
Jeans do not require such frequent washing. You can wash them only every 2-3 months if you don’t wear them every day. Manufacturers even advise against washing jeans because washing can quickly ruin their color.
7. Drying clothes that cannot be tumble-dried
The dryer is an excellent invention, but it’s very easy to ruin your favorite clothes. Unfortunately, I have ruined several of them a few times; they shrank during drying. Therefore you must always check which items are suitable for drying and which are not. Do not tumble dry these items: swimsuits, bras, garments with elastic elements, stockings.
8. Insufficient maintenance of the washing machine
The washing machine is a device that also needs to be cared for. Leave the door open so that the inside of the machine can dry? And how often do you clean your washing machine?
