Acupuncture is an alternative treatment method originating from China. In its homeland its use has been a matter of course for several millennia, but its popularity is increasing in other parts of the world as well.

If we have knowledge of the right points that are distributed across our body, and if we also know how to act on these points, we can significantly reduce sensations of physical pain or mental imbalance and discomfort.

All of this will simply help us maintain better health and overall well-being.

In this article we have selected several of the most well-known and important acupuncture points for you. Knowing them can help you get rid of pain and discomfort that might otherwise make your daily life unpleasant.

1. Acupuncture point “three miles”

Location: the acupuncture point “three miles” is located on the front of the shin, approximately 4 cm below the kneecap (patella).

Use: By acting on this point we can improve the function of our digestive system, and thus get rid of problems such as stomach pains, vomiting, or nausea.

Bend the leg at the knee and apply firm pressure to this point for one minute.

2. Point “third eye”

Location: This point can be found fairly easily on the forehead between the eyebrows — this is where the third eye is located.

Use: Stimulating this point can ward off headaches, depression, chronic fatigue and stress.

Apply gentle pressure to this point for one minute.

3. Pericardium point (pericardium)

Location: the pericardium acupuncture point (Latin: Pericardium) is located on the inner side of the forearm, approximately 5 cm from the edge of the palm between two tendons at the wrist.

Use: Applying pressure to this point can relieve feelings of nausea, the urge to vomit, or get rid of motion sickness (travel sickness).

Apply firm pressure to the mentioned point on the forearm with a finger of the other hand, using slight massaging movements for 4 to 5 seconds.

  4. Acupuncture point “tong zi liao”

Location: The point called “tong zi liao” is located at the outer corner of the eye where the frontal bone and cheekbone of the skull meet.

Use: Gentle massaging of this point can help us get rid of migraines and relieve eye strain.

Slowly and gently massage this point with the pads of your fingers until you feel relief.

5. “Great Rush” point

Location: The acupuncture point “great rush” is found on the instep of the foot between the big toe and the middle toe, about 4 cm behind these two toes.

Use: The “great rush” point is among the most well-known in acupuncture.

If we apply pressure to it with our fingers, we can achieve relief from headaches, eye fatigue and leg cramps.

Stimulating this point can also improve our concentration.
