What to make for the kids’ snack or dinner when there isn’t much time? The answer is spreads that taste great with whole-grain bread and are quickly ready!

1.    Quark spread with spring onion

Ingredients: quark, sweet paprika, 1 bunch of spring onions, pepper, salt

Beat the quark until smooth (you can add butter), add thinly sliced spring onion, pepper and salt. Finally season with sweet ground paprika and serve with fresh whole-grain bread and vegetables.

2.    Carrot spread with onion

Ingredients: 3-4 carrots, 1 onion, 4 tablespoons mayonnaise, 1 teaspoon sugar, salt, pepper, chives

Slice the onion into thin rings, peel and finely grate the carrots, and mix in a bowl to which you add the mayonnaise and sugar. Mix well, season with pepper and salt. This spread is suitable for fresh baguettes, rolls or buns; garnish with chives.

3.    Radish spread

Ingredients: 1 bunch of radishes, 1 onion, 4 tablespoons sour cream, a knob of butter, 1 package of tofu

Sauté the onion in butter, add the grated radishes and briefly fry, season with salt and pepper. After cooling, add the finely grated tofu and stir in the sour cream; serve with fresh bread.

4.    Mild egg spread

Ingredients: 5 eggs, 200 g sour cream, 2 teaspoons mustard, 1 onion, 1 teaspoon salt, pepper

Grate the hard-boiled eggs, add finely chopped onion and season with mustard. Stir in the sour cream, salt and pepper. Chill in the refrigerator. Serve with fresh rolls or buns and slices of salad cucumber.

5.    Horseradish spread with quark

Ingredients: 250 g quark, 4 eggs, 2 tablespoons sour cream (or natural yogurt), 1-2 tablespoons freshly grated horseradish, ground caraway, chives, salt, pepper.

Boil the eggs hard and in the meantime beat the quark until smooth. Then add the grated or fork-mashed eggs, grated horseradish and caraway. Stir in the sour cream, salt and pepper. Before serving with fresh bread, sprinkle with chopped chives.
