You’ve surely heard about the miraculous effects of cannabis on a whole range of illnesses, from Parkinson’s disease to cancer.
The problem is that here cannabis is still illegal thanks to a few restrictive politicians, unlike in many developed countries of the world.
Fortunately there are a few herbs in which we find the same medicinal cannabinoid substances as in cannabis, but these are completely legal and commonly available.
That means that by consuming them you can obtain almost all the therapeutic and medicinal qualities of cannabis, but without exposing yourself to any risk of prosecution.
1. Black pepper
Pepper contains the substance beta-caryophyllene (BCP), which gives it its characteristic strong aroma. It is a molecule that acts in the body in a way very similar to cannabinoids.
It is known to reduce inflammation, relieve pain, stimulate metabolism, act as an antioxidant and also has many other beneficial effects on the body.
2. Cocoa
Cocoa is the basis of every chocolate, found most in dark bitter chocolates.
Some people report that consuming cocoa triggers euphoric states in them or that they easily become addicted to it.
Cocoa contains a FAAH compound that is broken down in the body into an endocannabinoid called anandamide. It affects our organism similarly to the substance THC, which is probably the best-known active component in cannabis.
3. Black truffle mushroom (Tuber melanosporum)
Truffles in general are highly sought-after mushrooms by world-famous chefs, because they are very tasty delicacies.
These mushrooms, especially the black truffle, like cocoa, release anandamide into the body. Not only does it induce pleasant feelings, but it also has many therapeutic effects.
4. Kava (Piper methysticum)
This is not coffee, but a plant of the same name originating from the Pacific islands of Fiji. The root of this herb is boiled and then drunk.
The substances contained in kava bind to CB1 receptors in the brain, similar to THC in cannabis. For centuries this plant has been used to relieve states of anxiety and depression.
However, kava can be harmful to the liver in larger amounts, so its too frequent use is not recommended. For this reason it is banned in some EU countries.
5. Echinacea
You probably all know echinacea. It is mainly used to strengthen immunity during flu and colds. Its effects on the nervous system are less well known.
The active substances from echinacea bind in the brain to CB2 receptors, resulting in feelings of peace, calm and inner harmony. So they induce similar states to those caused by cannabis.
