In today’s world there is no shortage of things that people go crazy about. However, there are a few substances in our foods that can achieve this in a very short time.
And not only that. These substances damage not only the brain, but also the intestines and the liver. Yet the one responsible for their presence in food is precisely humans and their “ingenious” minds.
It seems that the more we know, the less able we are to think soberly.
If you want your mind to remain clear and to avoid damage to your brain, then avoid the following food ingredients.
1) Gluten
Gluten is a common protein component of wheat, barley, rye and other cereals. It is a sticky substance that adheres to the walls of the small intestine, where it causes digestive and immune problems.
The most common disease is celiac disease, which is related to the body’s intolerance to this molecule.
However, there are also milder manifestations that are not directly celiac disease, but can also significantly disrupt the body’s function, such as various degrees of sensitivity to gluten. They involve inflammatory processes, including inflammation in the brain and nervous system.
Studies have shown a link between gluten sensitivity and diseases in every part of the nervous system – the brain, spinal cord and peripheral nerves.
It has been confirmed that gluten is a major trigger of psychiatric conditions, mental retardation, dementia and essentially every other neurological disease.
Bread and baked goods have been consumed by humanity since ancient times. The problem is not so much the baked goods themselves as the “modern” baking techniques that make today’s baked goods contain much more gluten than in the past.
We wrote more about this topic in detail in this article.
2) Artificial sweeteners
Whether it’s aspartame, sucralose or saccharin, artificial sweeteners are very popular because they contain no calories.
The truth, however, is that although they do not provide the body with extra calories, over recent decades they have slowly been deteriorating and damaging our bodies.
Aspartame is a combination of aspartic acid (an amino acid with a strong stimulating effect on brain cells), methanol (an alcohol that causes blindness) and phenylalanine.
When the aspartame molecule breaks down in the body into its individual components, strong processes are triggered with carcinogenic effects on the brain.
Consumption of aspartame causes a whole range of symptoms, including anxiety attacks, slurred speech, depression and migraines.
The main problem is that today it is hard to avoid these artificial sweeteners – they are added to soft drinks, yogurts, chewing gum, cooking sauces, flavored mineral waters, cereals and all products labeled “sugar-free”.
3) Monosodium glutamate (MSG)
Monosodium glutamate is a chemical substance that is added to foods to enhance their flavor. It can fool the taste buds and the brain into thinking that the food being consumed tastes excellent.
However, it is an excitotoxin that stimulates the brain to produce large amounts of dopamine, which multiplies the pleasure from food. Unfortunately, this good feeling does not last long, but its side effects do.
Excitotoxins are associated with brain damage and other neurological diseases such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, multiple sclerosis, lupus and others.
When buying food, be careful whether it contains monosodium glutamate.
This applies especially to foods such as “healthy” protein bars, salad dressings, meat sauces, bouillons and packet soups, or canned vegetables.
4) Refined sugar
Processed or refined sugar has become one of the integral components of our foods. However, it is also one of their most dangerous ingredients.
Its constant consumption is associated with many health problems, many of which relate specifically to the brain.
Refined sugar suppresses brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a very important hormone for the brain. This substance is responsible for the creation of new connections between neurons in the brain, which is extremely important for memory function.
Studies have shown that patients with depression and schizophrenia have low levels of BDNF. Excessive sugar consumption can further worsen this condition and reduce these levels even more.
In addition, processed sugar increases inflammation in the body, disrupts digestion and damages the immune system. In the case of chronic inflammation, the risk of severe depression and schizophrenia increases.
Dr. Ilardi, a professor of psychology at the University of Kansas, recommends that patients with depression eliminate refined sugar from their diet. Those who followed his recommendation reported improvements in their mental state and mood.
5) Fluoride
The problem of fluoride mainly concerns English-speaking countries such as Great Britain, Ireland, Canada, the USA, Australia and New Zealand, which for incomprehensible reasons (supposedly to improve the dental health of the population) decided to add fluoride to drinking water.
To some extent this also applies to the Czech Republic, because fluoride is added to toothpastes here and sometimes children are given fluoride tablets or their teeth are coated with fluoride cream.
If you have ever considered these procedures for your children, you better forget about them quickly.
Studies have shown that fluoride significantly reduces IQ (governments apparently want a obedient, non-protesting population and so dumb people down with fluoride).
The Fluoride Action Network (FAN) pointed to 34 studies that demonstrate a link between fluoride and reduced IQ in people. Other studies show fluoride’s effect on reducing the ability to learn, brain damage in newborns, changed behavior, or even the induction of bone cancer.
Conclusion
Avoiding these 5 substances is relatively simple if you have the right motivation and sufficient knowledge about where they may be found.
Therefore, if possible, don’t risk the health of you and your family. In English there is a nice saying “Better be safe than sorry”, which in free translation means “Be careful rather than regret it”.
