A protruding belly doesn’t always have to be just the result of stored fat. It often occurs due to accumulated gases in the intestines, which then press against the abdominal walls.
It’s a natural process. It happens when we eat foods that tend to release gases during digestion – such as beans or sauerkraut.
Fortunately there is a relatively simple way to get rid of a bloated belly by releasing trapped gases.
Follow the procedure below and you’ll see for yourself how, in just a few minutes, the pressure in your intestines will ease and your belly won’t be so distended anymore.
Step 1
Start as shown in the introductory picture, using 4 fingers to massage the area above the navel with circular motions.
Do this for 2 to 3 minutes, then change direction and massage for another 2 to 3 minutes. This will help release accumulated gases.
Step 2
To release retained water, which also contributes to a bloated belly, start making the same movements as in step 1 but a little closer to the navel. Again 2 to 3 minutes in both directions.
Perform the massage gently so it doesn’t cause you pain.
Step 3
And finally, to reduce the heaviness in the abdomen that you may feel, massage the lower abdomen in the same way.
First in one direction for 2 to 3 minutes, then the same amount of time in the opposite direction.
Further recommendations to reduce bloating and flatulence
In addition to the three massage methods mentioned, also follow the following recommendations:
1. Start the day with lemon water – its components help regulate proper stomach function.
2. Don’t drink beverages during meals, because they dilute stomach acids and hinder digestion. Food then tends to ferment in the stomach and intestines and release gases.
3. Never drink alcohol on an empty stomach – alcohol prevents proper stomach function and also destroys beneficial intestinal microflora.
4. Drink ginger tea – ginger improves blood circulation and promotes the production of gastric juices, which improves digestion.
5. Chew your food thoroughly and eat slowly – rapid swallowing also brings in air that accumulates in the intestines. Chewing also pre-digests the food, which relieves the stomach and intestines.
6. Relax – spend 15 minutes each day on meditation or a walk in the fresh air.
