Each of us sometimes faces various small problems in the kitchen. A steak we forgot to take out of the freezer the night before, a poorly sliced cake, or butter that’s too frozen. All of these situations certainly don’t make kitchen work easier. If you encounter such problems in the future, we’ll advise you on how to deal with them quickly and easily. We bring you 15 practical tips that will save you time and nerves!
15 kitchen tricks
How to prepare eggs correctly
After breaking the egg into the pan, carefully turn the pan along the line of the yolk to the right so that the white spreads evenly. Then cover the pan with a lid. This way you’ll get breakfast eggs with a firm white and yolk.
If you want the yolks to remain runny, add 1 to 2 tablespoons of water around the edges of the pan and cover it with a lid. The water will turn into steam and cook only the top of the eggs.
Peeling eggs
Before you boil eggs, add baking soda to the water. The soda easily gets into the eggshell, which makes the peeling process easier.
Excellent fried chicken
If you want your chicken to be deliciously crispy, add a little lemon zest to the prepared breading, i.e., to the breadcrumbs. You’ll see that chicken prepared this way will be a big attraction for your guests!
Roasted potatoes without oil
If you are not a fan of preparing potatoes with oil, try this simple recipe where you won’t need it at all. Mix plain flour, crushed garlic, salt and spices in a bowl, add sliced potatoes and mix everything well. Transfer to a baking tray and bake in the oven.
No-cook oatmeal
Soak the oats in milk and put them in the refrigerator overnight. In the morning just take them out of the fridge, add fruit, cinnamon, a spoonful of yogurt and honey and enjoy — breakfast is ready!
Defrosting a steak
If you didn’t have time to defrost a steak, we’ll tell you how to do it in 5 minutes. Place the steak on an upside-down metal pot and then place another metal pot filled with water on top of the meat. This process will defrost your meat in a few minutes. Watch the whole procedure in the video.
Softening butter
Want to make a buttery spread but can’t wait for the butter to soften? Try this tried-and-true trick. Put a piece of butter in a bowl together with a glass of cold water into the microwave for 30 seconds and that’s it.
Firming up butter
If, on the other hand, the butter is too soft and you need thicker and firmer butter, put the butter into a bowl with ice. Then mix the butter with the ice until the ice melts. Watch the procedure in the video.
Quick peeling of citrus fruits
The microwave will also help you quickly peel oranges, mandarins and lemons. Put the citrus fruits in the microwave for 20 minutes and peeling will be a breeze.
Removing bitterness from a cucumber
Cut off the ends of the cucumber from both sides, then press one piece against one side of the cucumber and start rubbing it with it. Soon you’ll see white foam, which is responsible for the cucumber’s bitterness. Rub the cucumber until it stops foaming and then repeat this process on the other side of the cucumber.
Protection while whisking
If you need to whip, for example, cream in an open bowl, try using a paper plate left over from a party. Simply cut holes for the beaters into it and your kitchen will certainly never suffer damage again.
Natural flavor enhancer
Mix equal parts sugar and salt in warm water so that the taste of the mixture is neither sweet nor salty. This mixture is an excellent seasoning for chicken or rice.
Properly sharp knife
The rule is: the sharper the knife, the safer it is. A sharp knife requires much less pressure when cutting on a board, so regularly check the sharpness of your knives.
Even slicing
When slicing, try using dental floss instead of a knife when cutting soft cheeses or cakes. Products cut this way won’t be damaged and will look great on the plate.
