In the winter season and during times of various viral illnesses, it is advisable to regularly replenish vitamins from fruit, vegetables and other natural products that nature offers us.
Nowadays we find various vitamin supplements in pharmacies, but we should by no means forget natural remedies.
1. Garlic
Garlic, as we all know, is a natural antibiotic that helps especially during the flu season, helps with inflammations and also helps with toothache. It acts not only antibacterial, but also against high blood pressure. Therefore people with low blood pressure should be very careful when consuming garlic. Garlic contains many vitamins, for example vitamin A, C, vitamin D and many others.
2. Beetroot

Beetroot is rich in a large amount of vitamins, mainly vitamins C and E, and contains iron, magnesium, potassium and zinc. It also contains a high amount of folic acid and therefore beetroot is recommended for pregnant women so that the fetus develops favorably. Beetroot also lowers high cholesterol and blood pressure, strengthens hair and nails, supports liver function, fights fatigue and also helps in the fight against various allergies.
It helps tired eyes and eases painful menstruation. It is rich in iodine, so it is also very important in the treatment of the thyroid gland.
3. Sauerkraut
Sauerkraut is a very important source of vitamins. Sauerkraut is rich in vitamin C, B3, B5, B6 and B12, minerals and trace elements, especially potassium, iron, magnesium, zinc and fluoride. In addition, it is one of the best natural probiotics because it contains lactobacilli. It is also a good antioxidant. Because of all its beneficial effects, sauerkraut has long since ranked at the top of the healthiest foods overall. It supplies the body with valuable bioactive substances and perfectly cleanses the body of all harmful substances.
4. Thyme
Herbs have been medicinal plants since ancient times. Among the excellent herbs is thyme, which helps against coughs and sore throats. The main substance in thyme is thymol, which has strong disinfectant effects and works great against bacteria and viruses. Thyme tea is excellent and you can prepare it as follows:
- Pour 2 teaspoons of dried thyme with 250 ml of boiling water.
- Let it steep for 5 – 10 minutes and drink in sips.
- Remember that too much of anything is harmful.
- The daily dose of thyme tea should not exceed 0.5 l.
5. Sea buckthorn
Sea buckthorn is a source of vitamins A, D, E, K and others. Vitamin A, which is also found in carrots, has strong antioxidant effects and thanks to vitamin D supports bone growth and when used externally also has anti-inflammatory effects. At the same time, sea buckthorn tea acts anti-inflammatory from the inside and most people drink it as a prevention against various viruses.
6. Ginger
Ginger is one of the most commonly used ingredients (spices) people reach for when they feel unwell. Ginger works against respiratory infections. It contains the substance ginger, which has strong anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. It excellently reduces muscle pain.
7. Honey
Honey, together with ginger, is among the best natural antibiotics. It is an excellent fighter against bacteria.
When we feel bad, a teaspoon of honey in a glass of tea can work wonders. It helps with sore throats, aids coughing and tastes great.
8. Onion
Our grandmothers already turned to onions for various viral problems. They boiled it in water and drank this broth before bed. Onion acts like garlic. It loosens phlegm and helps with sinus inflammations. A proven onion tea that helps at the first signs of a cold:
- 300 ml of boiling water + sliced fresh onion.
- Let the onion steep in the boiling water for about half an hour.
- After half an hour, strain and warm.
- Drink mildly warm, not hot.
9. Horseradish
Another ingredient that can eliminate infections in the body is horseradish. It is aromatic and piquant. With a cold, it suppresses the multiplication of bacteria and loosens phlegm. Grate it on a fine grater and add it for example to a salad.
10. Young nettle
Nettle is truly medicinal. Our old mothers were able to use it entirely, from leaves to roots. The best is the young one, without flowers. We collect it preferably until mid-May and mainly in areas away from roads. It is not only beneficial for our health, but is also very helpful in our gardens. We use it as fertilizer for strawberries, as an addition to compost and it is even a repellent plant for some insects. Nettle can help with brittle hair, reduces blood glucose levels, cleans the body – detoxifies, so some people like to add it to smoothies, it benefits the blood and blood circulation, contains a large amount of vitamin C, cleans the liver, has diuretic effects and significantly improves conditions in various allergies.
11. Dandelion
Dandelion is a universal plant. It cleanses the body and has diuretic effects. It is also used for stomach problems and diabetes. It removes cholesterol and toxins from the body. It lowers blood pressure, supports circulation and improves heart function. It is suitable for urinary stones. Dandelion leaves contain vitamin C, B vitamins and provitamin A, minerals potassium, sodium, aluminum, copper, iron, calcium, silicon, sulfur and phosphorus.
