Many people today struggle with a slowed metabolism. As a result, this often leads to fatigue, exhaustion, or a lack of energy.
Another consequence of a slow metabolism is weight gain, because the body cannot burn the calories taken in from food quickly enough.
Today we’ll talk about 11 ways to speed up your metabolism and thereby rid yourself not only of fatigue, but also lose weight.
And all this without any extra effort or exercise.
1. Breakfast
Your metabolism slows down at night while you sleep.
If you have a hearty breakfast first thing in the morning, you will also wake up your metabolism and prepare it for good performance throughout the day.
2. Vitamin D
Sunlight is good not only for your health but also for your metabolism. A high level of vitamin D in the blood is associated with a healthy metabolism.
The best way to get vitamin D is from direct sunlight. If you decide on supplements, choose the vitamin D3 form (cholecalciferol).
You can find a quality vitamin D supplement in Slovakia TU and in the Czech Republic ZDE.
3. Eat all your meals
By skipping meals to reduce calorie intake, you will only slow down your metabolism.
Eating 3 main meals and 2 small ones (a mid-morning and an afternoon snack) is the best way to keep your metabolism at a constant level. Eat a large breakfast, a medium-sized lunch and a smaller dinner.
4. Eat natural (not processed) foods
Eating fruit, vegetables, proteins and whole grains is very beneficial for you.
Processed foods are hard for the body to digest and slow down the metabolism.
5. Be active
Regular movement allows your metabolism to function at maximum efficiency. This of course does not mean you have to go to the gym or fitness center every day.
It is perfectly sufficient if you take the stairs instead of the elevator or go for a half-hour walk in the afternoon or evening.
6. Proteins
Proteins are literally a superfood for the metabolism.
Instead of treats based on sugars (carbohydrates), which are digested quickly and leave you hungry, choose something based on proteins – like yogurt or kefir.
However, steer clear of heavily sweetened versions. If you absolutely must sweeten them, use honey, maple syrup or stevia instead.
7. Calcium
Studies have shown that people who consumed at least 1500 mg of readily available calcium per day gained less weight than those who did not get enough calcium.
However, favor natural plant sources of calcium, such as spinach or other dark-leaf vegetables.
8. Baths with Epsom salt
Add 1 to 2 cups of Epsom salt (magnesium sulfate) to a warm bath and soak for 10 minutes.
Epsom salt is an ancient remedy for drawing toxins out of the body. One to two such baths per week will speed up the metabolism and support weight loss.
9. Cold shower
Studies have found that a morning shower in cold water shocks your metabolism and helps it switch into a higher gear.
10. Hydration
Did you know that by the time you begin to feel thirsty your body is already dehydrated?
Water is literally the foundation of health and its lack may cause you health problems. Therefore be sufficiently hydrated throughout the day.
11. Sleep
Lack of sleep causes an increase in the stress hormone cortisol. This subsequently disrupts blood sugar.
It is proven that fluctuating blood sugar leads to weight gain. Therefore allow yourself 7 to 9 hours of quality sleep every day.
