Experts have been saying for years that drinking water is very important. The body must be properly hydrated to function well.

In fact, when we feel thirsty, it’s too late — it’s an alarm that the body intensely needs hydration.

Chronic lack of water has consequences. Here are 10 signs of water deficiency in your body!

1. Urine color

If you hydrate your body well, your urine will be light yellow and if you are low on fluids, it can be dark yellow. Check your urine color and draw a conclusion.

2. Frequency of urination

Adults urinate 4–5 times a day. If you do it less often, it’s a sign that you need to start drinking more.

3. Dry skin

All body cells contain water and exposed parts of the body are especially sensitive to drying. Dry skin is less elastic and is scaly. So if you want your skin to look fresh and supple, drink a large bottle of water every day more than before!

4. Hunger

Hunger can be mistaken for thirst. If you still feel hungry after a meal, drink a glass of water. You may have felt thirst as hunger.

5. Are you tired?

If you slept long enough and are still tired, it may be a result of dehydration. Drink a few glasses of water and check whether anything changes.

6. Headache

This is a classic dehydration signal. Next time your head starts to hurt, try quickly drinking two glasses of water instead of reaching for a pill.

7. Dry mouth

When your mouth is dry, it’s a sign that you should have drunk long ago. The volume of fluids in the body has dropped to too low a level, salt becomes concentrated and the body intensely requires water from the osmoreceptors.

8. Bad breath

Lack of proper hydration disrupts the work of the salivary glands, which causes too many bacteria to accumulate in the mouth.

9. Dizziness

Dizziness can appear during dehydration. The system does not work properly with a lack of water.

10. Constipation

Water supports proper bowel function; if you are dehydrated, your body will try to retain fluids leading to drying and problems with stool.

Extreme dehydration can be checked by pinching the skin. If it is elastic and returns immediately, it’s not bad, but if it stays pinched for a while and returns slowly, the body is extremely dehydrated. Even if the skin returns quickly, there may be a lack of water in the body. Analyze all the points and find out whether your body requires more fluids.
