People tend to divide products into beneficial and harmful ones, with the former to be consumed every day while the latter should be completely excluded from the diet. But is everything really just black or white? There are many foods that are considered unhealthy but bring many benefits. Which foods are these?
Healthy or unhealthy?
Desserts
Yes, desserts do not belong in the category of healthy foods, but denying yourself them can increase cravings. Nutrition experts agree that people who deny themselves their favorite sweets will not stick to healthy eating principles in the long term. Healthy eating is not only about rejecting unhealthy foods, but also about maintaining a proper balance. If your diet does not bring you joy, it will be difficult to maintain it. That is why indulging in a sweet treat now and then is recommended.
Whisky
Even our grandmothers knew that enjoying alcohol in small amounts is beneficial for the body. Harvard University has shown that consumption of alcohol in small amounts increases the level of lipoproteins in the body. And whisky contains a high level of ellagic acid, which is capable of destroying pathogenic cells that cause heart disease and cancer. Maybe Winston Churchill, a lover of this drink who lived a long and successful life, knew that too.
Popcorn
American research found that 30 grams of popcorn a day reduces the risk of developing diabetes, stomach ulcers, colon cancer, and its consumption helps prevent cardiovascular diseases. Popcorn contains polyphenols that have antioxidant effects. So let us indulge in this treat in small amounts as well.
Eggs
There has been much discussion about the harmfulness of eggs to health, such as heart problems, diabetes, salmonella, and so on. The truth is that eggs contain vitamins D and K, which the body needs for healthy bones, as well as choline, which regulates insulin levels and improves metabolism, and leucine, which is involved in muscle building. Of course, the rule applies here as well: do not consume them in large quantities.
Butter
Butter contains a number of vitamins D, A, E, C, B, calcium, phospholipids and essential amino acids that actively participate in cell construction. With regular consumption of this ingredient you will have stronger hair, nails and healthier skin. Butter in moderate amounts positively affects heart and vascular health and prevents the formation of blood clots.
Yeast
You have certainly read many negative things about this ingredient, but know that in the baking process, when they are exposed to high temperatures, they become harmless. Yeast even contains B-group vitamins, as well as 16 amino acids that are important for building and repairing muscles.
Potatoes
Many of us avoid eating potatoes because of their high starch content. However, it is mostly about how this ingredient is prepared. Nutrition experts have even found that potatoes absorb only 5% of the butter when boiled, whereas, for example, zucchini or eggplant absorb 30%. In addition, the potato contains fiber, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium, ascorbic acid and folic acid, so it is worth not denying yourself them.
White chocolate
Because grated cocoa, which contributes to mood improvement, is not added to white chocolate, it is often considered a pointless product. However, white chocolate contains cocoa butter, which helps restore liver cells and has positive effects on the human body. This treat even contributes to the production of serotonin and the release of endorphins in the brain.
Beer
Beer also has many positive effects on our body. For example, it can lower blood pressure, reduce the risk of heart disease by 30 to 35%, prevent the development of diabetes, and even help with weight loss. Quality beer contains a high amount of vitamin B. Of course, this refers to consuming beer in moderation.
Ice cream
Ice cream acts as an antidepressant, calms the nervous system and relieves stress. You should only watch out for the content of vegetable fats, colorings, artificial additives or preservatives. Nowadays, however, you can find plenty of quality ice creams and sorbets. Enjoy your meal!
